Buying a car is an important financial investment for all users. Cars require regular maintenance to keep them reliable and performance driven. Here are a few simple maintenance tips you can follow to get the best out of your car.
Engine
Check the oil levels by using the dip stick. Before doing so, ensure that the vehicle has been parked on a level ground. Now remove the dipstick and wipe it clean before reinserting it back to check the oil level. Remove the dipstick again to note the levels. The process has to be repeated twice since the oil can splash about while riding on an uneven surface. This could lead to false readings while using the dip stick the first time round. You also need to check the rubber belts which are all looped through several pulleys. The belts usually need to be replaced at the end of 25,000 miles. Car drivers also need to check the coolant reservoir on a regular basis.
Battery
While batteries are usually charged during service, they need to be preserved in good condition to improve their longevity. Keep the batteries clean by scrubbing the terminals with a damp cloth. If you are going to tinker with the electrical system, make it a point to disconnect the battery before proceeding.
Fluid Replacements
Refer the user manual to check when the fluids for certain components need to be replaced. This includes fluid replacements for the windshield washer, transmission, power steering, anti-freeze and trans-axle.
Car Wax
You need to wax your car on a regular basis to preserve the paint. This will help to effectively slow down the oxidation process and also gives the car that extra bit of sheen.
Tires
Get your tires replaced after every 5000 miles. Dust and debris particles usually get wedged in the tire and it is essential to have them removed on a regular basis. You can use soap oil and sponge to break down the grime particles. Check the air pressure every week to sustain steering control, fuel economy and riding comfort.
